In the past, we discussed art and advocated that life requires the integration of art. Nowadays, everyone who pursues a quality life has realized the importance of art in life. However, how to integrate art into life and build one's own artistic daily life?
As Heidegger said, the essence of art is to reveal truth and create things through culture, which is both design and art.
At the recently concluded design event in Shenzhen, Yikai Design was invited by Frame to jointly plan an exhibition hall about "Show", along with the Bubble Art Gallery Moooi, CASA BRAVA beautiful meaning and Switzerland LAUFEN together discussed the essence of art life in a sustainable context.

The Cross border between Art and Life
Design is an important medium to introduce art into daily life. Designers translate the essence of art into products and spaces and become a part of daily life that we can reach. On the eve of the design, Yikai Design and the Frame team jointly discussed the key words of curation: daily life, art, and sustainability. Based on this, guide the audience to think.
Can furniture be a work of art?Can artworks have daily functions? What is the value of collecting contemporary furniture?

Build an artistic "runway" using the most daily and continuous materials, for furniture, tiles, sanitary ware These most common products in our daily lives present avant-garde artistic expressions. Yikai Design collaborated with Frame's curation team to complete the design of the exhibition hall and the planning of curated exhibits.

In traditional exhibitions of the past, audiences were accustomed to selecting products and furniture that they admired. However, this exhibition design breaks the norm and takes "runway" as the core concept. The Yikai design team has come up with a creative idea: to make furniture "come to life". Furniture is no longer just a static exhibit, but is endowed with life and personality.
As the audience strolls through the exhibition space, it feels like they are in a fashion show in the furniture industry. The furniture here is no longer indifferent objects, but like humans, able to perceive and respond to the audience's presence. They seem to sit in the audience, quietly observing every movement and expression of people, and even being able to "understand" the audience's preferences and interests in them.

The Yikai design team believes that this concept of "giving furniture life" not only adds fun and interactivity to the exhibition, but also allows the audience to have a deeper understanding and experience of the design concepts and production processes behind furniture.
In this unique exhibition, the audience will have the opportunity to have a unique "dialogue" with furniture, a "show", but it is the visitors who walk on the overpass. In the design of the exhibition hall, the Yikai design team attempts to exchange the binary of "exhibition" and "observation", connecting the exhibition hall with a bright pink overpass, inviting visitors to step into the runway.

During the launch, Marcel Wanders, the founder of the Moooi brand and a Dutch national treasure level designer, arrived at the booth. In Wanders' view, creation should strive to create as much value as possible. "Value" lies not only in economic value, but also in the personality and meaning it brings to people. This coincides with the idea that the essence of art is to reveal truth. In the collaborative curation with Yikai Design, The bold, humorous, and artistic expression of the Moooi series products undoubtedly inspired the creative inspiration of exhibition hall design.

In the exhibition, the most discussed topic among visitors is not only the exquisite exhibits, but also the unique surface material used in the exhibition hall design - the most common paper egg tray in our daily lives.
It has become a trend for artists to use recycled materials in their creations. The use of this special material is not only a response to the concept of sustainability, but also an artistic exploration of everyday materials. At the same time, it also inspires and invites people to use materials more consciously and effectively, allowing previously discarded items to exert greater value.

Although the design time is very limited, the variant design still hopes to create some unique features within the limited time. Choosing the special material of egg tray not only conforms to the current trend of sustainable development, but also can stimulate industry thinking. After spraying the egg tray with a different design, it is assembled on the wall. By using the different construction patterns on the front and back of the egg tray, the exhibition hall wall is created with a unique texture that is arranged in a staggered manner. Combining bold color applications, it leaves a deep impression.

In addition, the Yikai team made a bold color application when planning the theme exhibition hall for the runway. In an environment with the theme of "show", furniture is given a special role - as a silent audience, their focus is on "human expression".
In order to highlight the central position of the audience, Yikai Design has selected black and white two color exhibits to present the focus in contrast. This low-key color selection aims to guide the audience to pay more attention to "human expression" rather than being distracted by the furniture itself. Furniture has become an indispensable but not overly ostentatious part of the runway.

The choice of color was gradually derived by the design team, and the theme color was pink, which responded to the brand colors of Bubble Gallery and Frame, and was also related to the personal preferences of the design team. In addition, in universal values, pink is considered the representative color of women, and to some extent, blue is more masculine. The black color complements the screen to display a neutral medium intention.

In the exhibition area composed of three different blocks: blue, pink, and black, arranged in sequence along the "overpass", it showcases the art from the Bubble Gallery Moooi, CASA BRAVA beautiful meaning and Switzerland LAUFEN are artistic products of three different brands. To showcase the tools used in daily life to viewers, and also to have an artistic texture.

Every person who steps into the exhibition hall, either stops for photos or exchanges ideas, becomes the protagonist of the show, while the exhibits become the inspiration and discussion points.

Extreme Challenge
It seems that many exhibitions and exhibitions will face the challenge of brainstorming and implementing in a very short period of time, and this time is no exception.
From receiving the curation invitation to the construction and landing of the exhibition hall, there were a total of 13 days, leaving only a few days for the design of the Yikai. In these days, every step of design conception, material selection, and construction landing has been a highly challenging task for the Yikai team.
The design team and curation team worked closely together and quickly streamlined the presentation format of the exhibition hall after finalizing the curation theme. Mao Hua, the founder of Yikai Design, joked that it was like doing an extremely fast problem. Without years of design accumulation, it is impossible to reach the ultimate moment of explosion.

Due to the use of special non-standard decorative materials, the exhibition hall is also full of challenges during the landing stage. Mao Hua talked about the construction process and said, "We didn't explicitly tell the workers which part of the egg tray was positive and which part was negative. Instead, we allowed them to freely participate in the design during installation. This collaborative process was very interesting."

"At first, when they were given space to play, they still solidified their search for a chessboard style installation pattern. But later, we told them to relax and be more casual, and we didn't expect the final result to be surprising. In fact, the construction workers at each stage participated in the design, and their participation made the design more interesting."
Perhaps this process of co creation is also another form of daily art.
The Collection Value of Furniture
This exhibition attempts to explore the boundary between art and everyday furniture, and also showcases the bench that Mao Hua collaborated with artist Cai Yunhua on. In her opinion, the topic of whether furniture has collectible value covers a wide range. From the perspective of time, in order for a piece of furniture to become a collectible artwork, it needs to be tested through time.

Its artistic value may not be fully understood by the market at present, but after the sedimentation of time, people still like and regard it as a treasure ten or twenty years later, in order to become collectible artworks. Just like Ming style furniture or antiques, they represent the accumulation of time and can be collected as long as the overall shape of the design is not a problem.

Another category is about how we define art because everyone has different perspectives. Mao Hua believes that original concepts are also very important. Taking Moooi as an example, their lighting fixtures and chairs, especially Marcel's carbon fiber chairs, have a unique artistic tension in their design. He innovatively applied carbon fiber, a high-tech material, in furniture design. These innovative concepts and attempts not only make it a visual and functional work of art, but also stimulate people's thinking about the essence of originality and design.

In addition to her role as a designer, Mao Hua is also the manager of the Bubble Art Gallery. Over the years, she has had unique observations on the changes in consumer perception of brands and art in the high-end home furnishing market.
Mao Hua said, "From the perspective of the Bubble Gallery, brand promotion was quite difficult in the early stages around 2011. At that time, the wealthy class was more inclined to purchase luxury cars, mansions, and watches, and invested less in furniture. They believed that the price of furniture did not need to be too high, but rather preferred well-known brands. In this situation, the operation of the Bubble Gallery brand was quite difficult, and the public's recognition of it was relatively low.".

With the progress of society, these high-end groups are gradually accepting niche brands, but they only choose big brand furniture. They believe that big brand furniture can better showcase their identity and status. Later, designers began to guide them, reminding them not to blindly pursue big brands. Mixing furniture and investing in art may be a better choice. Bubble Art Gallery hopes that the high-end market can highlight individual characteristics, not necessarily like others, they need to have their own truly unique artworks and customized furniture.
"Investing in art has become a trend in today's society, and their proportion in home design should gradually increase. I think the art investment market will prosper in the future, which is inevitable. Art not only carries culture, but also reflects the owner's level and preferences."

When exploring the relationship between design and art, taste, and quality, Mao Hua believes that although these three are independent, they are interrelated and emit unique charm in home design.

"Even if a person has a deep understanding of art, it does not mean they have high taste or a high-quality life. Although taste and art are related, they are two independent concepts. Similarly, even if I live a high-quality life, it does not mean that I am an artist or have extraordinary taste. Sometimes, I choose something not because it is a work of art, but because it conforms to other traits or elements that I pursue. Therefore, we need to understand and distinguish these three clearly to better grasp the relationship between art and quality of life."
