Cronus is the god of time, permanently destroyed and rebuilt. He symbolizes disappearance and return, and is the thematic starting point for the creation of the dynamic media installation "Chronos XXI". This piece is "Ancient Finger Exercises" by our Creative Director Joachim Sauter, created during his residency at Villa Massimo in Rome.

The pendulum swung constantly in front of the monitor. This action controls the slow composition and destruction depicted by Chronos on the monitor. Late Renaissance, Baroque and Classicist painters interpreted Cronus differently - as a man stripping Veritas, as an erratic musical performer, or butted on Cupid's wings, or as a child And children eating crops, old men with scythes and hourglasses, beards and wings.

In addition to these historical descriptions, newly generated images appear. To this end, the artificial intelligence's network of neurons was trained on the time-honored Chronos painting. The resulting "illusion" of time and space is fed into a continuous stream of images.

Occasionally, Kairos, Kronos' counterpart, representing a moment in time, slips in and interrupts the pictorial meditation on the constant rhythm of existence.
