According to the strategic decision of Mercedes Benz to establish a global R&D center bridgehead in Shanghai, Gensler, as the newly established digital center headquarters, will design office space and testing factory workshops. The Mercedes Benz Shanghai R&D Center is located in Jinqiao District, Shanghai. As a standalone R&D center, it occupies 5 floors.

梅赛德斯一奔驰畅想的空间要不仅反映对科技人才的强烈吸引，同时融合了上海的在地文化以及梅赛德斯一奔驰企业文化的核心价值观。该环境旨在为新组建的250名人才团队提供空间场所，并建立了与其品牌受人尊敬的行业标准相一致的基准。
The space envisioned by Mercedes Benz should not only reflect a strong attraction to technological talents, but also integrate the local culture of Shanghai and the core values of Mercedes Benz's corporate culture. This environment aims to provide a space for a newly formed team of 250 talents and establish benchmarks consistent with the respected industry standards of its brand.

数字河流 | Digital River
项目采用“数字河流”的设计理念，借鉴了上海历史悠久的水道和不断流动的数字信息之间，将其转化为诗意的平行，象征着物理和虚拟领域的连接。这个概念基础通过一系列的设计元素被赋予了新的生命延展性：地毯图案模仿了海滨和河流的聚汇，天花造型设计的灵感来自河流的节奏，让人漫步其中感受到到音乐作品的流动以渐强和停顿为标志。
The project adopts the design concept of "digital river", drawing inspiration from the long-standing waterways of Shanghai and the constantly flowing digital information, transforming them into poetic parallelism, symbolizing the connection between physical and virtual domains. This conceptual foundation has been endowed with new life extension through a series of design elements: the carpet pattern imitates the convergence of the seaside and the river, and the inspiration for the ceiling design comes from the rhythm of the river, allowing people to feel the flow of musical works as they gradually intensify and pause while strolling through it.

为了满足分隔专注性办公区域和配套独立功能需求，公共走道设计灵感来自石库门附近的老上海元素：上海的鲜明特征，标志性的门户元素，给现代工作场所一种地域文化归属感。
In order to meet the needs of separating specialized office areas and supporting independent functions, the design inspiration for the public walkway comes from the old Shanghai elements near Shikumen: Shanghai's distinctive features, iconic portal elements, give modern workplaces a sense of regional cultural belonging.

办公场所包括3层，每层1150平方米，平面功能经过整体规划和布局，充分利用自然光线，混合了开放工作区、协作区和专注工作间。为了加强团队的沟通和协作的需求，每个工作组除了固定工位还布局了指定协作区域。这确保了每工位的最佳间隔，为团队合作创造了有利的环境和舒适度。总的来说，办公场所包括一流的设施，如一站式共享服务中心、图书区、冥想室、瑜伽室、健身室，以有助于在梅赛德斯一奔驰上海研发中心工作的员工健康和福祉的打造。此外，Gensler团队还对卫生间进行了扩建和重新设计，以符合公司的高标准和舒适度要求。
The office space consists of 3 floors, each with an area of 1150 square meters. The overall planning and layout of the floor plan make full use of natural light and mix open workspaces, collaborative areas, and dedicated workspaces. In order to strengthen communication and collaboration within the team, each workgroup has designated collaboration areas in addition to fixed workstations. This ensures the optimal spacing between each workstation, creating a favorable environment and comfort for team collaboration. Overall, the office space includes top-notch facilities such as a one-stop shared service center, book area, meditation room, yoga studio, and fitness room to contribute to the health and well-being of employees working at the Mercedes Benz Shanghai R&D Center. In addition, the Gensler team has expanded and redesigned the bathroom to meet the company's high standards and comfort requirements.

所有设施如照明、空气净化系统、高性能声学和家具的选择，创造了一个健康且符合人体工程学的空间，同时有助于室内的整体体验，从最初的概念规划到材料选择和MEP设计，工作场所嵌入了健康标准，以达到WELL认证。
The selection of all facilities such as lighting, air purification systems, high-performance acoustics, and furniture creates a healthy and ergonomic space that contributes to the overall indoor experience. From the initial conceptual planning to material selection and MEP design, the workplace is embedded with health standards to achieve WELL certification.

汽车测试车间占地2300平方米，分为两层，包括先进驾驶辅助系统(ADAS)车间、测试实验室、软件实验室和办公空间。为了满足用户的特定需求，车间的中心是一个巨大的两层中庭，装饰着向标志性的梅赛德斯一奔驰明星Logo致敬的图形，展示了最新的概念车。这个中庭的设计具有多功能性，可以转变为配备大型LED屏幕的活动空间，联动一楼和二楼露台的人群互动。
The automotive testing workshop covers an area of 2300 square meters and is divided into two floors, including the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) workshop, testing laboratory, software laboratory, and office space. In order to meet the specific needs of users, the center of the workshop is a huge two-story atrium decorated with graphics paying tribute to the iconic Mercedes Benz star logo, showcasing the latest concept cars. The design of this atrium is multifunctional and can be transformed into an activity space equipped with large LED screens, linking the crowd interaction on the first and second floor terraces.

为了解决隐私和停电的需求，外墙采用了特别设计的薄膜。近距离看，图案显得抽象，但从远处看，它融入了一个独特的梅赛德斯概念车的形象，扩大了车间的视觉冲击力。
In order to address the needs of privacy and power outages, specially designed thin films are used on the exterior walls. At close range, the pattern appears abstract, but from a distance, it incorporates a unique image of a Mercedes concept car, expanding the visual impact of the workshop.

最后，Gensler团队被要求对大堂进入和电梯首层进行升级改造，在不拆改现有空间的情况下，采用合理的方法赋予一个独特而令人难忘的达到体验。设计手法巧妙的将现有三角形的圆柱重塑为一个欢迎访客的大型LED屏幕，提供数字体验化氛围。定制化的图案图形巧妙地融合了抽象、科技和汽车主题，强化了空间的独特身份。
Finally, the Gensler team was asked to upgrade and renovate the lobby access and elevator ground floor, using a reasonable approach to give a unique and unforgettable experience without demolishing the existing space. The design cleverly reshapes the existing triangular cylinder into a large LED screen that welcomes visitors, providing a digital experiential atmosphere. The customized pattern graphics cleverly blend abstraction, technology, and automotive themes, enhancing the unique identity of the space.
