Human storytellers and magical technology combine to create an unforgettable experience 1,776 feet in the air. The City Pulse Ring is led by ambassadors but driven by visitors. Using gesture controls and custom software, visitors can explore more than 100 personally relevant stories and destinations.

When we were asked to create a technology-based tour for the Observatory at One World Trade Center, we knew the spectacular views had to take center stage. How can we incorporate technology into this visceral experience? It had to be minimal, yet aesthetically powerful, and driven by a human storyteller who could perform unhindered.

Don't block the view Preserving the views from the One World Observatory is a top priority and we need to make the most of the environment. Our aim was to design a solution that does not block the view. Instead, we compliment the same World Observation Deck view with our own venue: a 14-foot city pulsating ring, an interactive concierge on top of the world.

Driven by a storyteller We handed the city pulse ring to professional actors and comedians who helped us shape the tour experience. Extensive user testing helped us equip performers with an intuitive gesture control system.

Future tour guide The pulse of the city enhances the tour guide's ability to capture the attention and imagination of visitors. Our goal was to provide performers with fine-tuned gesture controls, engaging content and a series of 10 interlocking displays. This got us wondering: what other tools might future tour guides use?
